RJ Whaley

NAUI / ASHI Instructor - SDI/PADI Divemaster

RJ, a southerner with some northern experience, bounced around growing up between Virginia, Minnesota, Georgia, and back here to the Richmond area. RJ was always looking to do different things and finally found his way into diving back in 1997 when he got his open water and advanced certifications. Then in 2000 he married his lifetime dive buddy Jane.

RJ, working for a local fire department, has became a member of their water rescue and dive team. Since then, he has continued to increase his training by getting his ERD1 certification in 2008, Rescue Diver, Divemaster, ERD2 in 2010 and NAUI Instructor in 2011. Used to diving in dark and murkey waters where he was happy to just see his pressure guages, RJ remembers his first dive in clear blue water off the coast of Florida where he about cracked his mask with his computer, not used to being able to see if it wasn't in his face.

Since that time, RJ and Jane have traveled to the Bahamas and St Thomas to dive. Now that RJ has retired from the VA Army National Guard, he has been able to focus his time on getting additional dive training.
